According to the Dutch TV, a Brit(t?) Air twin jet crashed on a flight to/from (?) Nantes in France. One pilot killed, all passengers survived. Aircraft shown on TV was burnt out completely, except for the tail (AF livery) and engines. BW Roger

it will be interesting to see if it a contributing factor, or not as the case may bee – just seems that the press have jumped a bit on the utterings of the 1st Officer, who obviously now has a hell of a weight on his shoulders. I suspect it will be a hell ofa long time before he’s mentally fit to fly again – if ever…

Thunderclouds at 2000ft I read in one of the reports?
By: Hand87_5 - 23rd June 2003 at 18:40
The investigators are considering this aspect aswell

Firstly, my sympathies to the captain’s friends and family.
Do you think possibly the weather could of been a factor? For the last two days now we have experienced some extremely bad thunderstorms (worst I have ever seen), Brest is pretty close to us, can’t of been much different down there either.

How awful, my sympathy to the family of the pilot who was killed, and I wish those injured a speedy recovery.

You’re correct Ren.
The pilot is the only casualty reported.
According to the last reports 2 to 5 passengers suffer minor injuries.
The investigators consider an other clue yet , the pilot might have experienced an attack. To be continued…..

Hi soz, didn’t see the post when i put mine up.
Apparently it sees it was pilot error on the captains behalf – pax reported the 1st Officer muttering “i told him to increase throttle”. SO maybee the pilot didn’t do so well!
RIP to all 4 killed

Very sad news indeed. R.I.P to the pilot. Thoughts are with his family.
How old are these type of aircraft? Between 1-5?
By: Ren Frew - 23rd June 2003 at 09:50
It was as described above (F-GRJS), operating Nantes-Brest.

the only picture that I found yet .

Yep , sad day.
It was a CRJ 100 from Britair. The jet was about to land at Brest and for some reason missed the approach.
Some suspect a pilot failure , but it’s hard to tell now.
“Only” 5 people are injured and the pilotis the only victim reported.

Tragic news, very sorry to hear it.
Is there a photograph of the crash wreckage?
By: Ren Frew - 23rd June 2003 at 09:23
It was Brit Air, operating as an Air France franchisee.
It looked like a Canadair RJ judging from the tv footage. Brit Air operate the 100 and 600 series according to their fleet listing. From the remains of the aircraft you could make out a high tail and rear mounted engine. 22 passengers were aboard according to reports.
I think the pilot must have done really well to keep the death toll down to one, there’s not much left of the plane that’s recognisable.
Best wishes to the family of the deceased pilot.
