Qantas and Boeing have got together to help celebrate the 75th anniversary of Charles Kingsford Smiths pioneering Trans Pacific flight May-June 1928 by retracing the Southern Cross’s route from Oakland California to Brisbane via Hawaii and Fiji.
After hand over to Qantas in Seattle, brand new 737-800 VH-VXP departed Oakland on the exact anniversary date of May 31 after a ceromony attended by several hundred people including Charles Kingsford Smiths son and Charles Ulm’s grandson.
Other ceromonies were held at Honolulu and Nadi Airports.
