Hi all,
For the first time in at least a year, I managed to get up tp Heathrow and admire the spectacular variety of aircraft on show. I was supposed to be working today, but didn’t feel too great this morning, so decided to take a day off. By 3pm, I was feeling better and went out to get some fresh air.
The weather was dreadful when we left home at about 2:45pm. It wasn’t any better about 20 minutes later when we arrived at the airport though. However, it did brighten up and I spent about 20 minutes at Hatton Cross Station and a further 90 minutes at the Visitors Centre, before heading home.
I currently have a digital camera on lease (!!) from a friend and took this along. My first real attempt at photographing fast moving objects was a great experience and I couldn’t wait to get home to see the results.
I took just 33 photographs in all and have posted 24 below, along with a description of each.
15 Second Films
I did record two short films of aircraft taking off. Each are 15 seconds long and feature two aircraft departing (along with sound). Each video is about 350kb in size and worth a look.

Photographs

This was the first shot I took as we made a U-Turn in the road. Unfortunately, lots of water on the window and the black window frame get in the way.

Similar to the first shot, water on the windscreen gets in the way of this Air Jamaica A340, I was really chuffed to see this.

A Virgin Atlantic A340-300 glides into Heathrow in the wet weather!

An extremely common sight this afternoon. An Iberia A320.

An Iberia MD-8x in the rain, a nice aircraft.

A British Airways A319 on an extremely fierce looking background.

Iberia (again), this time an A321.

After a move to the visitor’s centre, the weather got slightly better and we got a glimpse of the first of what turned out to be three Air Canada aircraft within the short space of time we were there. This one was a 767-200.

A British Midland A320.

A not quite so long A340 of Virgin Atlantic.

One of Lufthansa’s smaller visitors to Heathrow lifts off.

Iberia A321 taken through the trees. These trees should be cut down, they get in the way!

Great photos LN Strike Eagle,
I was wondering if you had a website with your masterpieces on?
Thanks for the kind words, I don’t have my own site, but I’m thinking about making one. In the mean time, click here to view my photos at JetPhotos.Net (if you haven’t already)
The name’s Daniel by the way,
Regards

You use digital?
Certainly do.
I’ll post some more up ASAP, these aren’t on my webspace, as my MSN link doesn’t seem to work here (hence the first Concorde piccy being a hyperlink).
For those who can’t wait, you can view some of my best photos here.
Both Civil and Military on that link, from all sorts of bases/airports.

Great stuff – sometimes its nice to see the smaller stuff such as the bmi A321 and Lufthansa cityline RJ85 over the B747s and alike!

Myrtle Avenue – is that what it’s called!
I agree, it’s a superb spot and I’m greatly looking forward to my next visit next Saturday (Where Concorde will be landing on 27L for us!)

Heathrow
Hiya, first post here.
I was at Heathrow yesterday, and took afew photos. Concorde was landing on 27R, to get here we parked at the visitors centre and walked up to the end, only a 5-10 minute stroll, and stood near a crashgate, next to a roundabout.
The visitors center isn’t good for photos, and only any use really for viewing, but even that’s not spectacular. You can get there by car, it’s on the Northern Perimiter Road, and there are airport buses which run past, so I think you should be able to get there that way too.
If they’re landing on 27L, head to a road called Myrtle Avenue, which takes you at the rear of the green/park, where you can park up for free and watch the planes. There was a single Police patrol along this road whilst I were there afew weeks ago, but they seemed aware that spotters use the area and didn’t leave their vehicle.
I took this shot afew weeks back, from the green at Myrtle Avenue (27L), gives you some idea of the photo opportunities at both the 27 runways.

Regards, Dan

Yes, Egyptair still fly, mainly with A310/A300 equipment, but I did catch the 747-300 there a few months back too.

What about EgyptAir? When I was there in June 2001, I saw either a series 200 or 300 on example. Do they still represent?

Very good effort!
El Al must be one of the only airlines still flying 747 Classics into LHR? Actually I know that South African do, but those are to be replaced with A380’s I think.

gd, there are shuttle busses, but I’ve only used them once, after missing a connection and being stranded overnight… I think they’re free, but can’t absolutely confirm so.

Michael.
Very nice. I like particularly the one framed by the car door and the Air Jamaica A340. I really ought to try and get to LHR, haven’t been in donkey’s years.
