I snapped this coming in low to GLA over the Clyde the other day. I think they look great in the air and you can see the blue tint of the water on the underside as it crossed the river to runway 23.

wouldn’t bet on it – i can see a Cargo operator somewhere close to home in europe making an announcement before the end of the summer on the ATP cargo varient!

Just on looks, yes it is a nice aircraft to look at and in BA colours it looks pretty good, but Blue Poole just ruined the aircraft. I’ve always liked it in SATA Air Azores colours though.
It was okay to travel on I suppose, quiet and comfortable with the 2×2 configuration though I much prefer the nice Jetstream 41!
BAe were in the process of changing the name to the Jetstream 61 after the technical problems were sorted on the aircraft I am lead to believe. However, certification costs etc were very high and the reliability of aircraft such as the ATR 72 who had a smaller version with the ATR 42 was more useful for airlines to operate. Some airlines obviously still operate the ATP, but its niche was destroyed with arrival of RJ’s in that time period. Never really was the success that BAe had hoped for like with the Jetstream 31

That was canned due to competition with ATR wasn’t it? Not sure why, I mean there is no link between BAe and ATR as far as I am aware.

this about as far as the AiR project got!

Did BAe ever get round to rebranding the ATP as the J61?
By: EGNM - 7th June 2003 at 00:13
in fact i like the whole Jetstream family – icl the J61!

The trouble with BAe is that they never actually designed any aircraft. Every last one of their product line was either an updated or a stretched version of somebody’s else’s:
ATP – big HS-748
J31/32 – improved over the Hawker Siddeley original
J41 – improved stretch of J31
146 – originally a HS design?
Maybe if they had given two hoots about investing in designing new aircraft, they’d still be around today. They only have to take a peek at Bombardier, ATR and Embraer to see that.

Now the J41 is a fine aircraft…………………………if only it had some commonality with the 31!

I dont like the ATP however i do like the jetstreams (31/41)

i actually like the ATP , although it has had its share of BAe problems – i’m sensing something here – previous thread BAe 146, this thread BAe ATP…

Doh ! I should have guessed  (lol)

That’s not a blue tint of water, it’s hydraulic fluid pi55ing out again causin another ATP gear hang up!!! 😉
