Top award for airport

Melbourne Airport has won a prestigious international award for its management practices.
It is the first Australian airport to win the International Air Transport Association’s Eagle award.
IATA director general Giovanni Bisignani said Tullamarine was among three airports that deserved special recognition for keeping a lid on costs and charges during the September 11, Iraq war and the SARS crisis.
Mr Bisignanni said Melbourne, Singapore and Athens airports had responded to IATA’s call to give relief to airlines and other aviation businesses.
They have shown leadership in assisting the air transport industry during it’s worst crisis in it’s history.

I went into LGAV shortly after it opened. Beautiful set up but the turnaround service was apalling. Mind you we got an excellent departure that took us over the Acropolis at a reasonably low level!

Athens new airport, Eleftherio Venizelou, is VERY nice. Even though, as discussed on the Olympic thread. the roadway leading up to it, after 2 years of operation, is still in complete. Other than that, it is fantastic. Of course it had a nightmarish start, Kabir. As did Chek Lap Kok, as did DIA, as did……

Athens mentioned in the same breath as Singapore and Melbourne? I’m shocked! Is it the 3 Heineken’s I just had, or is this for real?
