Anyone been there? I passed through it when I went to the Costa Del Sol. I went on a coach trip to Gibraltar and we were sat waiting and I thought whats the hold up and all of a sudden I saw A Monarch A320 land right in front of me! I didnt even realise it was an airport we were waiting for! Anyone got anymore info on the place? And is Monarch the only British Airline that flies here regularly? And Why do they fly there I mean it doesent really connect to anywhere as you’ve got Malaga so close to it.
I look forward to your replies.

Those flats at Marina Bay are a hellish price I went online property searching and 250000 minimum— shame as it would be super to live there but dont think our cats would like it when a plane comes in to land though! A place to buy when we win the lottery!

I loved the Caleta Palace when I stayed there last time. I think it was 3 years past January when I was there. I was only there for 24 hours though but still I managed to see The Rock, the caves and the marina and a drive around Gib a good few times as the road between the Caleta and the Airport was closed at the time, which meant we had to drive the l-o-n-g way round….. a nice place.

I knew that Spanish and English were both widely spoken in Gibraltar before I went there for the first time but then the funniest thing happened. I heard a conversation where the sentences were a mixture of Spanish and English – and I am talking about within the same sentence here!!
When asking for the bill, our host ask the waiter for “la cuenta, please” – I then asked about this only to be told that it’s not uncommon. Later on that day, a ticket agent for Monarch was quoting the cost of a ticket and said “incluido los taxes”!!!
I then was told that this is where the word ‘Gib’berish comes from – but I am unsure whether I should believe that or not!!
Anyone else heard anything spoken in Gibberish?

Those apartments across the water from the runway would be great!

Being able to take in that view from the window is reason enough to go there! Can’t speak a word of Spanish, though not for lack of trying. Guess I’m just a dunce with languages.

The market property is in a boom in Spain not sure about Gib but i would imagine similar prices, but its still much much cheaper than here, and the cost of living is so much lower, food prices are often as much as half of ours, but this might not be the case in Gib, but if you cant speak spanish Gib is an english speaking place so thats a plus!

Nice.
It is one of the places I am thinking of moving to when I qualify – there is a developing offshore finance industry there. Not as developed as the IOM, but with a nicer climate!
Does anyone have any idea about property there? I mean, in Jersey you can’t buy anything unless you’re born there or have lived there for ages (unless the rules changed in the last few years). Not that I want to go to Jersey anyway :p

Reminds me of when South African had to fly to LHR using the 747SP, because they were denied overflight rights for Black Africa. They had to follow the coast all the way up.
Equally banal – whatever the rights and wrongs involved, making life tricky for an airline route planner aint going to make a government change its policies.

Thanks Charley B!
We just happen to be staying at the Caleta Hotel. It’s got a good reputation from what I hear, and I think Duesseldwarf has stayed there before.

No. You can certainly fly over Spain. The problem is when you need to divert.
At certain times of the year, the weather at GIB makes a landing impossible, so the aircraft has to divert. Since the British and Spanish argue over GIB, a flight ex UK scheduled to land at GIB cannot divert to say AGP, XRY, SVQ etc. This is because it is a flight destined for GIB. The aircraft instead (in Monarch’s case) diverts to TNG, lands/refuels, and then flies from TNG to AGP.
The flight is then allowed to land in AGP, because it originated from Morrocco.
The pax are bused to/from AGP and GIB.
Rediculous situation, I know!
