New system enables reduced spacing for aircraft on approach to Heathrow

Pairwise seeks to increase capacity at Heathrow to improve on-time performance and contribute to reducing carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. The system was first deployed in December 2024 at NATS’ Swanwick air traffic control centre in Hampshire. A NATS press release said: “Early indications show that the technology will increase landing rates, something that would cut airborne holding and make a significant carbon reduction over the course of its deployment.” NATS said: “While the overall number of flights at Heathrow is
