NOAA Orders Super Hercules ‘Hurricane Hunters’

The US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) will receive a pair of specially modified Lockheed Martin C-130J Super Hercules. The Administration announced the contract on September 27, 2024, which covers two C-130J Super Hercules to be built at Marietta in Georgia that will be modified as ‘hurricane hunters’ and for environmental research. Options for additional Hercules were also included in the contract, although the number involved has not been revealed, which are expected to be taken up once funding
