US Coast Guard opens first new air station in 25 years
Although a formal commissioning ceremony scheduled for June 18 was postponed, the US Coast Guard has opened its newest air station in southern California, writes Tom Kaminski Located at Naval Base Ventura County/Point Mugu, Air Station Ventura is the service’s first new air station in 25 years and replaces Air Station Los Angeles, which closed in 2016. The service has operated a forward operating base from the facility since 2016, with aircraft and crews detached from Air Station San Francisco.
