Rolls-Royce wins $2.6bn B-52H re-engining contract

Rolls-Royce has emerged as the winner of the competition to re-engine the US Air Force's (USAF's) 76-strong fleet of Boeing B-52H Stratofortress long-range strategic heavy bombers, beating off competition from GE Aviation and Pratt & Whitney. On September 24, the US Air Force Life Cycle Management Center (AFLCMC) awarded Rolls-Royce Corporation of Indianapolis, Indiana, an estimated US$500.87m indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract with a six-year base period for B-52 Replacement Engines, with a potential total value of US$2.604bn if all options are exercised.
