A Curtiss P-40N Warhawk has taken to the skies in Australia

Pilot Doug Hamilton was in the cockpit taking Curtiss P-40N Warhawk 42-105875 aloft for the first time following an outstanding restoration by Wangaratta, Australia-based Precision Airmotive.

Built at Buffalo, New York it first flew with the USAAF in or around 1942, but since 2021 has been registered VH-EPU in Australia to Pay’s Air Service. It made a successful return to the air on February 20.

Ross and Ann-Maree Pay have also acquired a Supermarine Spitfire Mk.I project which their New South Wales-based Hunter Fighter Collection organisation is aiming to return to the skies. When it flies again, it’ll be the nation’s only airworthy Mk.I. For more information, see the next edition of FlyPast.
