Legendary aviation artist Robert Taylor passed away recently following a short illness – Aces High Gallery has announced a special Remembrance Weekend

Artist Robert Taylor who has died aged 77, worked with many of the great World War Two pilots to establish both accuracy and drama in his images – most of which have long been considered collector’s items. The Robert Taylor Trust has now been established in conjunction with current Directors of the Military Gallery, his publisher.

Even though his subject matter usually alluded to the dark days of conflict, Robert placed a sense of calm and beauty into subjects that might have appeared warlike in some hands. It was as much about the sky and the capture of light as it was about the subject aircraft. The latter are transformed when made elemental parts of skyscapes. There was something genuinely awe inspiring and uplifting, even spiritual, within it. Few would dispute that he was the greatest aviation artist of our time.

To celebrate Robert’s life and his extraordinary talent, Aces High Gallery has announced a special three-day Remembrance Weekend at its Steventon Gallery in Oxfordshire. The event will take place on January 19, 20 and 21. In a statement, Aces High said: “We'll be exhibiting some of his finest work spanning his impressive career including originals, rare prints and framed collector’s pieces. Additionally, we invite you to share your thoughts and pay respects in a Book of Remembrance, which is open to everyone, offering a collective space for cherished memories”.
