International airport lounge and hospitality operator, SSP Group, has announced the expansion of its portfolio at Kutching International and Kuala Lumpur after signing a contract with Malaysia Airport Holdings Berhad (MAHB).

The new deal means the company is set to assume operations of six lounges across both hubs.

“This business win marks the beginning of an exciting expansion programme in Malaysia,” said Mark Angela, CEO of SSP Asia Pacific. “Our detailed knowledge of this market and strong track record as operators, plus a phased investment plan aligned to the return of travellers mean that our lounge offerings will be perfectly aligned to the needs of our guests in each of these locations.

“We’re looking forward to working with MAHB on these exciting plans to provide a quality airport experience for travellers, while also increasing our presence in this important market.”

Three out of the six new facilities will be located at Kuala Lumpur’s Terminal 1 (KLIA1), where SSP plans to take over the international loyalty lounge and two business zones. At Terminal 2, the firm is expected to assume operations of two sites.

A joint venture between the SSP Group and Travel Food Services is set to run the new business.
