From July 19, passengers will still be required to wear face coverings at UK terminals and onboard flights, a joint statement from the UK aviation sector has confirmed.
Released by the Airport Operators Association (AOA), Board of Airline Representatives in the UK (BAR-UK), International Air Transport Association (IATA) and Airlines UK, the announcement added that these rules could be enforced through the denial of boarding.
The decision, made in line with government guidance and international requirements, comes as airports and airlines continue to ensure the safety of travelers. Other COVID-19 measures - including enhanced cleaning and social distancing - will also remain in place.
The need for face masks during air travel to both and international and domestic destinations, reflects the current epidemiological situation in the UK and globally. These regulations will be reviewed as the health situation evolves.
In England, current UK Government guidance states that it “expects and recommends that people wear face coverings in crowded areas, such as public transport”.
