Dayton Ohio’s National Museum of the USAF recently welcomed the arrival of a special Stearman

One of only two existing PT-17s formerly used by the Tuskegee Airmen, the famous black American combat unit, for training during World War Two, Boeing PT-17 Stearman 41-25454 recently arrived in Dayton.

The 1942-built biplane was acquired through an exchange with the Collings Foundation’s American Heritage Museum in Hudson, Massachusetts. Rob Collings described the transfer of the aircraft as bittersweet: “It is a little emotional. The National Museum of the USAF is such a spectacular museum and this aircraft deserves to be on the national stage. I hope it will inspire everybody who comes through. It’s in the right location. It needs to be here.”
