A US Navy E-2D Hawkeye crashed in the area of Wallops Island and Chincoteague in the State of Virginia on March 30 resulting in one fatality.
A US Navy press office release stated the crash took place at around 7:30pm. It was not confirmed which unit the aircraft was from, although it did belong to an East Coast Airborne Command and Control Squadron (VAW).

One crew member of the E-2D was found deceased in the aircraft after the crash following a search by the Worcester County Fire Department dive team. The other two aircrew were rescued by Maryland State Police and underwent treatment for non-life threating injuries.
An investigation has begun on the reasoning behind the crash. No reports of the aircraft's state have been released.
