Ahead of its transatlantic debut later this year the US carrier rolled out its new premium cabin on domestic services for the first time

New York-based carrier JetBlue last week launched its first Airbus A321neo with its reimagined Mint cabin on domestic scheduled services.

The jet, N2105J (c/n 10101), departed JFK bound for Los Angeles shortly after 10.30am on June 1. It is scheduled to perform select transcontinental flights for the next several weeks.

“The A321neo with Mint’s entry-into-service marks yet another exciting milestone for the company this year, and will continue to position JetBlue to compete effectively on this key route,” said Jayne O’Brien, head of marketing and loyalty, JetBlue. “From a completely reimagined Mint, to our award-winning core experience, coupled with the superior economics of the A321neo aircraft, JetBlue is resetting the standard for transcontinental flying and will add even more relevance to our customers in Mint markets.”

With 16 fully lie-flat private suites that feature a sliding door, the operator is hoping to set a new standard for premium travel. The aircraft will also include 144 economy seats that JetBlue says have the most legroom of any other US carrier.

The narrowbody – named “NEO Mintality” – is JetBlue’s 16th A321neo and the first of this type to feature Mint.

Travellers can spot the new jet by its unique “Ribbons” tailfin. The design features three blues from the airline’s brand palette and is the first tailfin inspired by so-called “Op Art” – as in optical art – using simple shapes to create the illusion of three dimensions and movement.

Meanwhile, JetBlue plans to introduce a 24-seat layout on its A321LRs which will operate flights between New York/JFK and both London/Heathrow and London/Gatwick airports beginning later this summer.
