Ukrainian sea drones’ shoot downs
The world’s first case of a rotary-wing aircraft downed by a weapon fired from an unmanned surface vessel (USV), colloquially called a ‘sea drone’, was recorded on December 31 last year – when at least one Russian Mi-8 Hip helicopter fell victim to a R-73 (AA-11 Archer) IR-guided air-to-air missile (AAM) launched by a Ukrainian MAGURA V5 sea drone, operated by the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense (HUR MOU).
