Air Ministry Mystery Bag.

Hello everyone.

I know it’s not strictly historic aircraft aviation as such, although it is AM marked. So, I guess that sort of counts.

Anyway, I Just wondered if someone out there might be able help me out.

I have been sent this photo of a canvas bag that was found recently in a house renovation. No contents but nicely marked though no date stamp that I know of. I haven’t got any measurements for it, just the one photo.

I’ve not seen the bag in person, but the chap that found it asked if I had any ideas about it. I did wonder if it was something to do with navigation?

So over to you.

Thanks in advance.

Yes, navigators, for the use of.   I always associate these with smaller aircraft carrying a navigator but not enough space for a dedicated navigator’s station, i.e. rest it on your knees sort of stuff but I may be wrong about that.   I definitely found stacks of them at a store chokka full of Fleet Air Arm surplus so I always imagine “Fairey” when I see them.  More info and illustrations a mere google away.

Crikey, I’ve posted twice on this forum in one day – is this some sort of record?
