New Zealand's flying Anson Mk 1 exported to Czech Republic

The beautiful Mk1 Anson is leaving New Zealand for Europe to join a group, known as RAF Station Czechoslovakia, which already owns and operates an excellent collection of heritage aircraft including three former RAF types, all in period camouflage. These include two pristine Tiger Moths and a rare Miles Magister, one of just five flying worldwide. When it was restored in 2012, the Anson was the winner of the FlyPast Magazine ”Most significant warbird restoration of the year” poll.

This aircraft [MH 120] has been refitted with its fully functioning Armstrong Whitworth mid upper gun turret complete with an accurate replica Lewis Mk ll machine Gun. The Bomb bays in the rear of the centre section of the wing have been refurbished and are fully operational. Replica bombs have been dropped at several Airshows around New Zealand during airfield attack scenarios.

The other two flying Ansons are UK based, at Sleap (G-VROE)  and Old Warden.(G-AHKX)

Let’s hope we see her in UK skies soon: it will be lovely to see an early Annie airborne.

Stunning photographs…

The metal wing and tailplane Mod’s had escaped me thus far, I’m afraid. Interesting subject to have read up on.
