Kermit Weeks continues to produce regular and very engaging video reports on the developments at his restoration facility in Florida, and the recent release shows the taking-down of the near-derelict DC-3, which has been a roadside advert for 25 years or more.
The removal was halted for a while by the sudden collapse of the corroded and damaged undercarriage, and it was pure luck that lives were not lost, as people had been working underneath the airframe, and could potentially have taken the weight of the eight tonne aircraft.
Certainly some lesson to be learnt there. He plans to retain the airframe.
