I’ve been unable to access WIX/Warbird Information Exchange for the past week or so, even after having this issue previously and changing my VPN.
Is it off-line or is it another ‘VPN’ issue? I’ve never had this issue with another site.
TIA.

I was just asking if anyone could resolve the issue. I’ve used WIX for many years. My issue seems to pre-date any maintenance/update etc (it’s been weeks, rather than a few days).
Doesn’t seem to be any issue with any other sites, but it does seem to be related to previous DNS-type issues.

Yes, the site has been unavailable for a few days.
This was a holiday (three day) weekend in the U.S., so that may have delayed resolving the issue.
Generally, the site is largely North American, but there are frequent contributors from the UK and Australia.
The members are primarily aircraft focused, meaning you may not get an answer to an aviation related history or operations question. Also, I find that they are interested in the “usual suspects”, meaning obscure or rare types may not be appreciated. That’s not a surprise given its warbird centric name.
And like all forums, some do not like to play nice and some have positions they well on (a hatred of “data plate” restorations. Some don’t seem to really appreciate the fact if it weren’t for data plate rebuilds, the number of airworthy Spit fires and Mustang would be considerably less than there are. Okay, they don’t have an ace’s DNA in them, but they are better than nothing. And a crumpled bit of corroded metal dug up from a beach isn’t going to tell non-enthusiasts about the war that a living aircraft can).
But on the positive side, there are a few warbird pilots or operators, as well as the occasional owner. Also, the occasional author.
So, it’s not as comprehensive as the OLD Key forum, but certainly more robust than this one in its current state.

Ignorant *****

Getting a lot of noise: can anyone help? It’s been several weeks, so not a short-term issue with the site as far as I can see. Others say they can still access (or have been able to while I’ve had this access issue).

What part of “the server’s being upgraded” didn’t you understand?
By: Sabrejet - 3rd September 2024 at 16:54
Can anyone help? I’m having trouble accessing the Warbird Internet Exchange website. Not sure what the issue is but it only affects WIX at present. I’m now getting an “SQL error” message. Any help gratefully received.

Why the ridiculous question?
You started it by asking if it referred to access from outside the US.
I had actually worked out you were trying to access the site. You mentioned it earlier so it wasn’t difficult.
If you read the other WIX related thread, you’ll see that Fargo Boyle says their server’s being upgraded.
The fact that you haven’t been able to access the site for weeks is probably not their problem but yours.

Why the references to American and Canadian? I’m just trying to access the site…????
By: dhfan - 3rd September 2024 at 15:08
Not at all. The owner and the vast majority of the users are American, or Canadian, so obviously most of the threads are regarding US aircraft and events.
I think the first day I had a problem, this time, was yesterday so it seems you have a different problem. For me, it’s been absolutely fine since last November.

I’ve been trying to access it for a few weeks, so my issue doesn’t seem to be just a few days’ worth. I’ve tried on another laptop and also my mobile but none of them can access the site.
Does the ‘heavily US orientated’ part relate to access outside of the USA?
By: dhfan - 3rd September 2024 at 09:26
A lot of people use it but it’s understandably heavily US orientated.
It was offline yesterday morning but came back in the evening. Gone again now…
First twitches I’m aware of since the period a year or two ago when I had to use a VPN to access it.

Seems to be offline again: anyone use it?
I’m not sure why the site seems so unstable, but after several years of persevering with it, nothing seems to have changed.

WIX appears to be sorted now, I’ve been able to access the forum for 3 days now without any problems. Perhaps the wind changed direction or something…
By: Sabrejet - 2nd November 2023 at 21:15
OK thanks. Would still love to know what it’s all about if you ever do find out.
By: Fargo Boyle - 2nd November 2023 at 18:32
I posted on WIX a while ago about the problem, but have only had responses from people with workarounds (VPN or changing the DNS) and no explanation as yet from the boss. My U.S. VPN is still working but it’s a pain to have to keep using it.

But why????
By: dhfan - 1st November 2023 at 21:52
DNS and VPN aren’t really similar.
DNS is Domain Name Server which translates domain names to the actual numerical address.
VPN is Virtual Private Network which routes your connection through “somewhere you aren’t”, presumably using their DNS.
Don’t wait for the next sentence, I’m out of my depth…

I think I’ve tried 8.8.8.8. But does anyone know why?
By: dhfan - 1st November 2023 at 16:38
Google’s DNS server 8.8.8.8 is reputed to work but my BT Home Hub 6, despite being the Business version, doesn’t want to play.

DNS, not VPN (similar I’m sure!): just changed mine AGAIN (to Cloudflare) and it still doesn’t work.
