In the classic TV series, “The Avengers” season 4, episode 9, a dH Mosquito appears in fairly long scene.
Any guess as to its ID/serial?
It clearly shows the painted bomber glass nose, though the flat panel is clear. The mock cannons are mounted above it.
So, clearly a survivor from 633 Squadron.
I ask because one of the Mosquitos at the Mosquito museum was said to be a 633 Squadron aircraft, and I was wondering if it was the same aircraft.I
The episode in question was first broadcast in the spring of 1966, so perhaps filmed in the summer or fall of ’65.

Thank you for solving that riddle.

The Avengers/Mosquito connection rang a little bell with me as I was involved in a discussion some years ago in which Colin Barron had identified the Mossie as RS712.
Earlier thread here – https://www.key.aero/forum/historic-aviation/141360-633-squadron-film-n…
Colin did go on to publish his book as mentioned in that thread. It is called “Planes on Film” and is a very interesting read.
I’ve yet to see the episode myself but now that it’s on archive.org I’ll soon put that right! 🙂

No doubt mentioned in dispatches!

Doubtless Steed could have been in all three services.
At the same time!

Thanks for the replies, I was hoping for an IF on that particular airframes, but I appreciate that there were 3 (IIRC) Mosquitos around then.
Interesting story, more of a “what’s going on” take rather than a whodoneit.
Yes, they state Steed was in the RAF, but I have read that in another episode they say he was in the army. Oh well. But I choose to believe anyone driving a vintage Bentley must have been a pilot. 🙂
Among other episodes I’ve recently seen is one where the first half takes place on board a HP Herald, another used RC airplanes as weapons. Then the occasional helucioter, including one where Mrs. Peel is flying.
In several, there are built Airfix kits used as props, the B-17 is easily identified by the kits decals.

Interesting episode in that we discover that Steed flew night missions during WW2 (I forget now whether it is explicitly stated that he flew in bombers or not) – in fact Patrick Macnee had served on Motor Torpedo Boats, and suffered classic survivor’s guilt after his boat was destroyed in action while he was in hospital with bronchitis.

Sadly, no clue in the footage to reveal the specific identity of the Mossie, although filmed at Bovingdon, as were 633 Squadron and Mosquito Squadron, and no doubt that the same aircraft were available.

Where can we see that Avengers episode?
