Palestine circa 1918

While researching something else,I came across these glorious original colour shots, apparently taken in Palestine circa 1918.

Thought I would share.

If memory serves me correctly, “Classic Wings” put some Frank Hurley photos on their Facebook page a few years ago. He certainly was an excellent photographer.

Splendid, thank you! I wasn’t aware that Hurley was in Palestine at any point, so I’ve learnt summat.

The photos were created using the The “Paget Process”and taken by Frank Hurley.

And depict the 1st Australian Flying Corps, after extra research.

Fascinating, thank you! Do you know what the colour process was? It looks sharper than autochromes, but I can’t remember when Dufaycolour arrived (1932, sez Uncle Google, so it’s not that)
