I am looking for information on my father Bryan Darroch-Warren who died on 5th May 1973 in the As Salama Hospital, Al Khobar following a road traffic collision. I am trying to establish where my father is buried, potentially the ARAMCO cemetery or other Christian cemetery. Death Certificate shows that the Consul was informed by a Mr D. G. Hawkins of Airwork Services Ltd, Dhahran.
It would be great if anyone had any potential information that may assist.

Hi PD
Not sure how many of the wartime ranges were still open in the 1960’s but I do know that Lyme Bay was used by the TT20’s (sometimes shutting down 1 engine to save fuel during the positioning/return flight)(shutting down 1 engine was fairly common practice with Meteors).
I doubt the TT20’s had the range/endurance to use Aberporth – RAF Aircraft using Aberporth/Cardigan Bay Range usually operated out of Llanbedr or Valley.
I am also assuming that the Meteor T7’s (later Hunter GA11) were used during the Royal Navy ‘Thursday War’ wargames off the south coast – a role carried out by Hawks in more recent times.

thanks bazar, do you know which range TT20’s used on? Were they flown at Aberporth as part of missile trials there?

Meteor TT20 and T7 were definitely used for Target Towing (TT20) and as ‘Target’ (T7) – not sure if they used meteors for calibration flights though.

Hi, I’m doing some work on the Cold War in the sixties and am interested in the work Airwork did in the mid sixties. I was looking through some old Hurn logs and there seemed to be regular flights by Meteors and other AW aircraft that lasted maybe 1hr20minutes. Does anyone know what these were, and where they were flown? I’ve been told they may be calibration flights (radar/) and/or target work. Maybe over the Irish Sea. Can anyone confirm?
