Spitfire Mk IXc OO-ARE, COGEA

Being of a certain age I have come accross a photograph of the above Spitfire taken at Panshanger on the occasion of the London to Cardiff air race in June 1961. I took the afternoon off college to watch the start of the race. I am wanting to make a model of this aeroplane, dispite being there at the time I cannot remember if it carried a regisration under the wing and weather it was completely silver except for race number circle and anti dazzle panel.

Peter.W: did my two replies to your request help at all? It would be good to know.

There was an interesting thread on Key in 2005 that includes photos of the COGEA  Spitfires, including OO-ARE. I’m not sure how to link to it, but it is entitled SPITFIRE C.O.G.E.A OO-ARC/NH188.

I saw most, if not all, the COGEA Spitfires at Middelkerke in 1959 (OO-ARA to F). If I remember correctly all were silver overall, but the registration was sometimes on the fuselage, sometimes the fin ( my not very good photo of ARC attached with another in the background). I don’t recall about it also being under the wing. What I did note was that the former Belgian Air Force serial was visible through the silver paint (OO-ARE was SM-36, ex RAF NH238).
