I don’t think there is any doubt about it being a loss leader for the council. If they had more space and longer runway I think they may start to get back their money.

This did happen to bmi at Belfast City Airport before between the Alpha 1 and Alpha 2 (or is it 2 and 3) holds for for RWY 04. It resulted in all bmi traffic being sent out to Alpha 2 and backtracking to the runway resulting in a short time delay.

The airport put new foundations in and then re tarmaced resulting in a surface that any aircraft the airport is rated for can use.

I would be very surprised if this was a “new” issue at Londonderry as its not something that just appears one day, the ground would always have been prone to this problem just maybe lucky up to now.

EGAE really couldn’t give the local people campaigning against them any more fuel could they?
