VINTAGE AIRLINER CUTAWAYS

We are back to the early sixties with the Sud Aviation jet  cutaway.

AIR FRANCE began the first London to Paris jet service with the Caravelle III.

Between 1959 and 1981, the company opareted 54 of these airplanes considered at the time to be the perfect medium-haul aircraft.

It’s a 1/25 wooden cutaway model made by M.E.E.

Best regards

Travel  during the ART DECO Period

The DEWOITINE 338 was the most Iconic French Airliner back in the 1930s

A nice 1/20 cutaway model still exists.

Art Deco Aviation

AIR FRANCE was created in 1933 following the amalgamation of all existing French air companies wich had a fleet of over 250 aircraft and 28 different models.

Many 1/20 airliner models have disappeared as AIR FRANCE policy was to let go collection pieces that no longer corresponded to the aircraft in its fleet.

But sometimes miracles happen !

Original paintings of airliner cutaway are rather uncommon to find.

In fact the douglas DC 6 B cutaway never should exist !

The company UAT ordered the Douglas aircraft after the Comet I disaster.  All the jet fleet  came back to the manufacturer De Havilland.

It’s not very hard to figure out what happened to the large UAT Comet I cutaway models.

Travel agent models were a very attractive way to introduce air travel, and later the jet age.

Becoming obsolete, they were put at risk, especially the large propliner.

I restored a lot of models for that reason.

Now, I’m able to create replicas for friends

Yes the Caravelle was indeed a beautiful aircraft with unique teardrop shaped windows to draw the travellers gaze down to earth. It had the nose of the de havilland Comet although interior cockpit avionics were somewhat different.

The cutaway models of the 1960’s and 1970’s era were beautiful works of art. As a child I always remember looking endlessly at a Panam DC8 cutaway model in the window of my local travel agents. Sadly travel agent models appear to be virtually extinct now.

Anyhow fantastic model of the Sud est Caravelle
