Why? Because we haven’t increased the speed by 5% a year?
Guess what: if the passengers today would be willing to spend the same amount of money (in terms of buying power) as they did then for flying across the Atlantic, well, you would see Concordes all over.
Today I can afford a flight and the last death was I think ten years ago (Swiss MD-11), during that time hundred million people if not more have crossed the Atlantic.
I would say it is as good as it could get.
Safe, affordable, comfortable: a people’s product.
