Very fortunate to get this piece yesterday. It is in the post so will see it in detail when it arrives.
This is the second of these cowls that I have been fortunate to obtain – the last one was about ten years ago and was from a belly landing and was significantly more crumpled…
This is a very soft aluminium and the edges are all there and will return to shape easily. The starboard rear angled section appears to have been the most affected. But not bad after 70 years lying around an airfield.
Found at RAF Udine in Northern Italy where 185 squadron had Spitfire IXs in 45 .
Also found out that 225 squadron PL353 Spitfire IX damaged there in July 46.

That is a very recognisable bit of Spitfire. An excellent find!

I am having to look far for parts nowadays. I currently have items coming from Belgium, Ukraine, Switzerland, France and Italy.
