Checking out old topic on London Airport

Another slightly odd shot to my eyes but maybe it was just for a publicity photograph.

I’m not sure which runway and direction the Lancastrian is using but I think the tower-like cluster on the left is the concrete mixing plant  , as for the shed on the left again not sure…possibly the old Fairey building?

I believe this is a press photo and you’ve probably seen it, or one very similar to it, before.  

It background looks like LAP but it seems a bit odd to me. It was taken some years before I started going to LAP and I’ve been trying to orientate myself but can’t get it together. Maybe I’m having a ‘doolally’ moment , so I would be interested to any comments as to exactly where it was taken and in which years?when was it taken and from which direction

It wasn’t the waving, more that the PIA flight is taxying Westwards (away from the terminal/parking area)

Your PIA Super Constellation ids departing, Laurence. Here’s a 1954/1955ish view from the passenger friends enclosure entrance  (BEA operating off the closed runway 28R)

As we all get older, we more often refer to “changed times” or some similar cliché but how many years has it been since this stretch of roadway has been so devoid of traffic?

Still can’t edit so: I should have said the picture above is Pakistani Super Constellation AP-AFQ leaving for (? coming from) Karachi, July 1959.

The Airport Commandant surveys the north ramp from the old control tower.

Eastern end of the Northside tarmac 1966 (still used for cargo and longer term aircraft ‘parking’ then)….Caravelle just lining up on 28R in corner

One unexpected thing was that, when it came my own posts, there was an EDIT button. So, for some of those posts, I was able to split the continuous text into paragraphs once more.  Hmmm?

longshot: yes it really was 10 years ago since I started that thread! Clever of you to have found it again in spite of the difficulties the new thread format imposes to find anything. A shame about the fudged photos. I was especially pleased with the Pakistani Constellation and the lady waving good-bye.
