Duxford Diary: Thankyou and Goodbye.

After more than eight years, and five million views, Duxford Diary 2019 will now continue elsewhere.

On behalf of the regular contributors, I would like to say thankyou to everyone who has followed our efforts and who helped make DD so successful, and to the staff and volunteers who have been so very helpful.

Hi all,

Just to let you know Duxford Diary has returned and is pinned to the top of the historic section. It has been a priority of ours but it has not been the easiest fix we’ve had to make. Sorry it took so long to come back and please find it linked below;

https://www.key.aero/forum/historic-aviation/3845195-duxford-diary-2019

Thanks for bearing with us.

Kind regards,

Khalem

Whether its too late remains to be seen, but the thread has returned, and is pinned to the top of the Historic section.

This is a very sad day indeed – I’ve been waiting to see how this situation develops and now it seems I have my answer.

I thought the previous forum migration was a very bad idea due to the huge loading times and inferior UI, however this latest forum, even without the lack of Duxford Diary, takes the biscuit!

It’s a real shame for Key Publishing that David (DCW) has bailed out and has taken his beautiful and plentiful photos elsewhere, along with other regular posters.  I fear that you’ve really shot yourselves in the foot.

After 8 years and 3 months in this community, I, too am off to those same pastures new.

I wish everyone the best of luck in the future.

SimonR.

That was a copy and paste error on my behalf. The thread is

or you can find it in the Forum Updates / Issues section.

Hideous new format, now one of the most unfriendly sites I frequent. Its hard to read, hard to navigate, hard to like. UK airshow review gets my and hundreds of others votes, simple to use, to the point and clearly run by enthusiasts for enthusiasts.

So long key, what a bunch of no hopers  nowrunning the show, sad but not surprising…!

Been here from the beginning & it’s got worse everytime they’ve tried to modify it.

Unfortunately,  the new site doesn’t work on my work computer so i’ll just have to stick to facebook.

It is a shame this site has gone so far downhill & has lost such valuable expertise.

I too am out of here, heading to the new DD location.

I may have only signed up relatively recently but I have been enjoying this thread for over 7 years.

The saddest thing about this debacle is that when questioned Key was not even able to answer the question of what the benifits of this new format would be. So it seems that there has been no tangible positives to balance out the enormous negatives that are now driving so many away.

Thanks to all the contributers.

I’m using my first and probably last post  to this forum to say thanks to DCW and the other contributors who have provided such great photos and information over the years. .  I too will be moving on.

Cheers

Like many other on this forum, I cannot get to DX as often as I would wish and I appreciate the efforts of those who can and who keep us updated together with news and stunning images.

The new format of this forum had driven many away and I suspect that many of them, me included, will be signing up to the new location for DD. As of 9.00 this morning, the DD section of “the other side” has had over 2500 views.

Bye-bye FP forum!

Sadly time to move on. Thankyou to all who posted on Duxford Diary. Will join you and DCW at the “NEW” venue. Regards from Perth, Western Australia.

24 hours after my last post on the subject the new Duxford Diary has received another 1000 views (now 1450) – that’s over 20 views per hour.

I’m joining the exodus. I have really enjoyed using this forum to keep up with all things vintage aviation and warbird as I now longer work in that field, but I hate the new look and it looks like I can get my “fix” elsewhere.

Agreed, Trolley Aux, I think they’ve probably wrecked any possibility of a roll back to the previous version too. Surely though the designers should’ve been qualified enough to transfer the photos without causing mayhem. This is something like a team from The Apprentice would come up with!

you cannot go back the damage has been done and threads lost photos lost i doubt very much could be recovered. I think transferring the photos was a task to far

So this is the result of Key’s unannounced and unwanted vandalism. OK, it’s “their” thread, but it wouldn’t exist without its contributors and readers. Duxford Diary was (and still IS in its new site) one of the top contributions (along with several others, such was the wealth of the old Key thread). Now we can’t even find our way around it nor can we conveniently access valued old material. It’s a real shame, but I would echo several people in asking why you cannot simply reverse your decision and go back to the original format. I thought I would be able to count on replies to my various specific points I have made on several threads, but no, nothing except, “We’re working on it”. Sad.
