I’m sure there will be a lot of useful parts. It is amazing what can be used in a static restoration

I think what they mean is that all other crash sites were high impact with small structures maybe widely dispersed
this is a wreck you can see that but a whole wreck with larger structures

Hi All,
This picture and statement from the article do not go together I think somehow  I am just glad that with this discovery like already mentioned elsewhere in the article and mentioned in this thread many parts will be used that will enhance the project.
‘This is the first model we have found that hasn’t had catastrophic damage.’

As others have said, the wreckage might just provide a part for which there is no drawing, or an answer to some structural conundrum that helps the DP872 guys out – worth a punt I should have thought!

it was said it had more than likely belly flopped and settled to the bottom, and then sank or got covered in sediment, similar to the Mary Rose, and those remains came out of restoration very well…

The picture shows some of what was pulled up – not all. Remember that much of the aircraft was tubular structure, which will pretty much look like the picture with all of the covering removed, even in really good condition!!
If it solves one query, or supplies one missing part, it will help the restoration.

This is a significant find and will be a huge help in the restoration.
The Stirling Project could only dream of such a find to help them in their work.
Very well done to all concerned.

Well if the pic is anything to go by then I hoped they found the data plate. The remains of the aircraft are pretty much just wreckage.

Excellent news, just goes to show that there are still airframes to be found :eagerness:

The ‘windscreen’ shown is an observers window and if the rest of the old girl is in broadly similar condition it would really be a marvellous find.
By: Lynx815 - 5th June 2019 at 21:19
It could also be LS473.
