I don ´t think, that the D-CDLH has the same corrosion problems as the Swiss Ju ´s. There was a major repair two years ago at exactly the area, which was found damaged within the wreckage of the HB-HOT. I think after the accident the High Heads of Lufthansa found out, that an old aircraft is bearing a big risk of having accidents and damaging the name of a company. Also the Superstar desaster will have led to this decision. However, they kept her flying for more than thirty years. I don ´t know any existing airline, which spent such an enormous amount of money and manpower in their historic fleet for such a long time. Thank you LH, for giving us the chance to see this aircraft for such a long time over her home country.

Sad news. I used to see it occasionally chug past the office window when I was working just south of Frankfurt in the early 2000s. You don’t realise how spoilt we are in the UK for historics until you live somewhere else.

Following the lead of the Swiss…

I wonder if they found something wrong with the type, or whether it is, as the previous poster mentioned, a result of insurance issues?

At any rate, a sad event for history buffs.
At least a few Fords are still flying, as well as various DCs and De Havillands.

America’s oldest flying airliner, a Boeing 40C, was sold to a museum which will keep it flying, I don’t know if they will sell rides in it. The previous owner didn’t sell rides, but he gave free flights to several hundred enthusiasts (including many members of a UK group) over the decade he operated it.

The lesson here is if you want to fly in an old aircraft, don’t wait.
These experience flights are just one technical issue/mishap/insurance change/political action from being grounded.
