I have just heard that Luftwaffe night fighter pilot Hptm Heinz RΓΆkker died last August. He was the highest scoring surviving night fighter pilot with 64 victories to his credit. I had the pleasure of spending a few days with him a few years ago, when I took a Bomber Command veteran that he had shot down out to Germany to meet him. They got on very well and became good friends. Heinz was a very quietly spoken and modest man and a pleasure to have known.

Yes, his autobiography (in German) was published in 2006. I also have several hours of recording made when Heinz and Jack met.
