It’s time to start a 2019 Newark Air Museum Briefing thread, through which I will endeavour to keep people advised of the day to day activities at NAM.
Again on behalf of everyone at Newark Air Museum I would just like to say a BIG THANK YOU to everyone who visited in 2018 and supported the museum events and activities.
Details will continue to be added both here and to the – Latest News Page on the NAM website.
Also, details about the other events such as the Indoor Aeroboot / Aerojumble Table Top Sale – 13 April 2019; etc. can be found on the Events Page here!
Happy New Year everyone and at a convenient time would it be possible for a kindly Mod to lock the 2018 Briefing thread?
Final reminder for now, NAM is back open at 10am on Wednesday 2nd January.

The following information has been posted on the NAM website about Christmas Opening 2019
“Check out when we’re open & when we’re closed this holiday time …
First of all we would like to send out a big Happy Christmas message on behalf of all the volunteers, staff and trustees to all those people who have supported us throughout 2019; whether you are visitors, shoppers or event participants many thanks for your custom, good will and kind comments. It really is appreciated!
As per normal the museum closes at 4pm on Monday, December 23 BUT reopens again at 10am on Friday, December 27. All other days during the post-Christmas holiday period we’ll be open from 10am until 4pm, with last admissions to the museum at 3pm; last museum shop admission 3.40pm. Don’t forget that there’s lots to see inside so don’t let any poor weather forecasts stop you from visiting.
Before Christmas we hope that some of you might call in for those last minute presents, whilst after Christmas you’ll be desperate to spend that money you’ve been given. Don’t forget that we’ll also be closed on Wednesday, January 1, but open again on Thursday, January 2.
Some good news for the early part of 2020 we will be holding our ticket prices at their current rate.
As ever for those of you who can consider the Gift Aided admission, please do so as it makes a huge impact on our income from the tax that we are able to claim back from HMRC.
During the period after Christmas the café will be operating as normal and is an ideal stop off point to warm up and recharge the fuel tanks before continuing to look around the museum.
Christmas Shoppers Beware
If by any chance the weather turns wintery and there are no visitors in the museum after 3pm, the museum may close early to allow the staff to get home during daylight. So as not to be disappointed by the museum being closed, please don’t leave your shopping trip until late afternoon!”

The following information is being reported elsewhere about NAM:

Here’s a weblink to some photos from the Newark Air Museum Autumn 1940s Weekend; the event is open again first thing on Sunday morning; don’t forget to put your clocks back; approach the site from the A17 direction & there’s a better weather forecast for tomorrow!

… thanks for that clarification, and there was me thinking it was down to Brexit!

Re. Yorkshire tea; That’ll be the import tax!

Everyone at NAM is now starting to get ready for their Autumn 1940s Weekend event, that takes place on Sat 26 & Sun 27 October 2019, more details in the weblink below:

I know you were, unfortunately they couldn’t afford Yorkshire tea in the NAM café!
Sadly the forum talk was none too positive and if people do as they said, this place will be poorer for their departure!
By: Blue_2 - 13th October 2019 at 16:50
I was only joking about free brews T/O; us Yorkshire folk are always angling for “summat for nowt”!
I agree, the state of the forum was definitely a hot topic yesterday…

We aim to please, sorry that I didn’t get more of a chance to chat.
The visitor/buyer flows seemed to be more spread out across the morning; and most comments seemed positive; and that’s despite the disappointment at the museum not being able to announce the date for the spring sale – watch this space!
Free brews, stopped a while back, mainly due to the fact that now the café is right next door to Hangar 2 and as such is much easier for sellers to pop across to make their purchases.
An interesting aside were a few of the negative comments circulating amongst the general chit-chat about the changes that have been made about these parts. I would have to concur with comments elsewhere on here that our generous hosts need to move ASAP to minimise the possibility of everyone’s departure from posting on here!

Just a quick note to say thankyou to T/O and the team who make the Aerojumble happen, and (appear) to run smoothly. A great little networking event as usual, although to me it seemed quieter than previous ‘jumbles. Still, always a good day out, nice to catch up with some people and enjoy the obligatory toastie, but you were rather lax with the waiter service free brews this time T/O… !

A new update has been added to the participants list for the NAM Autumn 40s Weekend event listing on the museum website; this features new additions to the event on Sat 26 & Sun 27 October.

After trying for a long time to log-in in with the old ‘handle’ decided it would be quicker to go with a new one – so here we go in a ‘brave new world’ – please don’t forget its only eight more sleeps to the ‘sold-out’ NAM Indoor Aeroboot / Aerojumble on Saturday 12th October 2019.
Exciting times ahead!

NAM have updated details on their website about the 1940s Weekend on 26th & 27th October 2019
By: barongan - 22nd September 2019 at 20:45
That is interesting. Thanks.

NAM no longer has access to the former runways at Winthorpe; and if the gossip is to be believed – none of the other aircraft types being filmed or access to any HAS type structures!
By: SADSACK - 21st September 2019 at 15:35
You would have thought it would have been easier to film the MIGs on the old aerodrome at Winthorpe? Perhaps they needed green screens.
By: TwinOtter23 - 21st September 2019 at 13:54
Quick update to advise that all of the seller tables at the Autumn Indoor Aeroboot / Aerojumble have now been allocated. Another sell-out!
By: TwinOtter23 - 18th September 2019 at 13:58
NAM is reporting on its website that:
“…..the MiG-23 & MiG-27 aircraft are due to return to it our site on the afternoon of Thursday 26th September 2019, at a time that is still to be confirmed; more news when we get it!”
