Info on Meteor F.8 at Civil Defence School, Taymouth Castle 1960s

Does anyone know the history and fate of a Meteor F.8, probably WA903 of 63 Squadron, which was present at the Civil Defence School, Taymouth Castle, Kenmore in Perthshire in the early 1960s? It appears briefly in a video on the NLS Moving Image Archive website – screenshot below-

Hello Nev,

Thanks for the info re. WA903. Unfortunately I haven’t discovered anything more regarding what happened to it after Taymouth but if I do I’ll post the info on here. ORB not required but thank you for the offer 🙂

Hi,

Apologies, it has taken me a while to get round to following this post up!

I have been following up the histories of the 63 Sqn Meteors and discovered from the April 57 ORB entry that ‘The last Meteor Mk.8 was flown away to RAF Edzell by F/O B.J. Weaver. WA903 had flown 1740 hours with the Squadron’

The aircraft was one of those originally issued to the squadron in 1950, originally coded ‘A’ and later ‘D’ before becoming ‘H’ probably around 14/06/55 when VZ464:H was sent to No 1 SoTT Halton for Ground Instruction. The Air Ministry Form 78 Aircraft Record Card for WA903 is probably available from the RAF Museum at Hendon on request, as you probably know.

I should be very interested to know if you have found anymore info on the fate of this aircraft. Please PM me if you would like a copy of the ORB page.
