Yes, I knew W4050 had been restored to the configuration in which it last flew.

It’s nothing to do with me, it’s not my aeroplane, but as there are so few short nacelle Mosquitos left, personally I think it should have been restored to how it had been for most of its existence and as near as possible to how it was built.

I first saw it as a kid, not long after the museum first opened and the last time was a forum visit when we were hosted by Bruce, and in all that time it had the single-stage Merlins. For most of that time, it was the only one with them in the country too.

The Mossie prototype at London Colney is, as I understand it, restored in the configuration in which it last flew. It was kept flying through the war years and used for development work, hence the two-stage Merlins in the long nacelles.

There was a PR.IV version of the Mosquito that was externally little different to the B.IV, so PR Blue wouldn’t be too out of place on DZ542, although not strictly correct.

Whatever the finish, it would be great to see an early “glass nose” Mosquito flying, fingers crossed.

I doubt any bombers wore a PR colour scheme.

If as it appears, it’s going to be rebuilt with the bomber nose, as far as I can tell it will be one of only two short nacelle bomber versions in existence, KB336 in Canada being the other one.

The prototype could be described as a bomber variant but after the in-depth restoration they fitted two-stage Merlins anyway.

I don’t recall much, if anything, being posted about this airframe since the original news. Now that Spitfire TB252’s done I believe work at Avspecs is ramping upon Jerry Yagen’s Curtiss Hawk. When I visited in early February 2020 there was no sign of DZ542.

Really hope this gets a PR Blue paint job.

I’m not too familiar with the bomber variants, did many B.IVs wear PRU Blue? I’m wondering if the owner would just replicate its original paint job worn during the Highball trials.

Hi, I realize this is an old post. However, does anyone have any news about the whereabouts or ownership of DZ542?

It was going to be for the Mosquito Pathfinder Trust, but they (Aircraft Restoration Company + AvSpecs) are now finishing Glyn Powell’s NZ2308. So no declared ultimate owner that I am aware of.

Nice one Geoff.
I’m losing track. Where is this one headed.
Can you just imagine what Geoffrey de Havilland would think?
Well done Avspecs!
