Most of the people who own these aircraft got into that position by knowing when to buy and sell, and how to work a deal

I remember a discussion with a well known collector, who confirmed that he would sell any aircraft in his considerable collection, but he set the price. They are never advertised, but the rate at which they move on and are replaced suggests that his strategy works quite well for him!

Lots of ways of looking at it Bruce, but after all said and done anything is only worth what someone is prepared to pay.

And most often the buyer thinks it is worth 50p and a Snickers bar. The seller thinks it is worth a stack of gold 5′ 11” tall. The seller’s wife is convinced that the plane is worth a stack of gold 8′ 6”, and thus starts the negotiations!

Many aircraft are perpetually for sale – but the price is the price!

Saturated market it may well be, some have been up for sale for a long time which suggests the seller is in no rush to sell….but for the price of a Spitfire I could have a Swordfish, Lysander, C-46….
Same thing occurs to me about the ‘run’ of Buchons – lovely as they are they are neither fish nor fowl….. but someone please please buy that Guatamalan Mustang and dont touch her – clearcoat her and fly her as is! 🙂

Saturated market maybe, but don’t think that they’ll ever drop enough for me to have one:(

Looking on places like Platinum and Courtesy, it’s amazing what’s available at the moment – Lysander, Swordfish, Grumman Guardian, several Spits, Seafire, I-16 Rata, Buchons and even an airworthy B26 Marauder project (although in it’s very early stages), and then there’s the Greg Herrick collection. That Avro Avian deserves a good home…
