I am pleased to report that the extensive restoration of one of the Merlin engines recovered from Halifax JD150 has now been completed. We have a special event on Saturday 15th Sept 2018 at the Wings Museum. We will be running up the original Rolls Royce Merlin XX engine from Halifax JD150. The engine has now been fully restored complete with it’s original engine bearers! The “Saxophone” style exhausts have been painstakingly restored to give the unique and previously unheard sound of the MkII Handley Page Halifax bomber, not heard since 1943. The engine will be run in memory of the crew of Halfiax JD150, the skipper was just 19 years old! A number of ex Bomber Command veterans will also be present on the day to sign prints and books. A link for those that missed it. It was a fantastic day and we are planning on doing another early next year. Glad to say the engine roared into life thankfully, George Dunn DFC read out the names of the crew and pressed the start buttons. For us it was great to see the veterans witness it running having talked about it for years!

For those of us that can’t go can some make a good audio track of it so we can hear the difference between this engine and the normal Merlin exhausts 🙂
