Hi, I’l looking for the overhaul notes (specifically for dismantling – we need to replace the wiring to the heating element) for the Avimo Mk 8 Pitot head, the straight through Vampire style, not the Spitfire type. Does anyone have details of how these come apart?

Hi Anon, yes, certainly they’re around, we have a couple. Most I have seen have very old flex and for that reason it’s prudent to re-wire. We have one that has been beautifully re-wired with modern cable, however it’s the wrong voltage for our application. So, it can and has been done in the past. We just need to know how to get the darn thing apart without breaking it…….
There is one small countersunk screw, but even removing this doesn’t free the tube from the end plug.

Surely it’s easier just to find another one isn’t it? They can’t be that rare for something like the Vampire.

These pages may help (but probably not) they are for Smiths types. Note it says (para 22) they are not to be overhauled and so no manual will be issued.
