Hello,
I wonder if anyone could help to identify a propeller blade that has been in my family’s possession for over 50 years.
It was originally a gift to my late father from a friend who was associated with Thornaby Aerodrome both during and after WW11.
He told my Dad that it was from a Spitfire and we never have tried to prove or disprove that.
It has been mounted on a wooden display base.
The metal threaded ‘hub’ is quite pitted and I can’t find any markings there. The only thing I can find are the numbers 408 stamped twice into the end of the prop underneath the rubber disc. The rubber disc also has markings. They read R.A 3103. They are stamped into the rubber and covered with a strip of what looks like Denso tape.
I’ll attach some pics, but can take more if required.
Also posting this in The Spitfire Forums.
Any help or advice would be much appreciated.
Alan
