Martin 250 turret

Can any one help , I am in the process of restoring a Martin 250 upper turret but desperately in need of dimensions of the gunners seat .I have made a replica seat base copied from an original but now in need of the seats overall height and details of the lower strengthening ribs.

Heres some more pictures of the turret from when i started , the rebuild of the gunners seat kindly supplied by Fred Bieser along with the ammo boxes and support rail .

Unfortunately the seat was in a terrible state so i carefully drilled out  the spot welds , made a new skin and riveted the seat back together as i dont possess a spot welder.

The side panels , foot rest , armour plate brackets , gun shutters and a lot of other usefull stuff came from the Canadian museum of aviation in exchange for my Lancaster tail turret parts to help them with their restoration………..happy days !

Thanks for the kind words gentlemen , i must admit i do enjoy in trying to restore aircraft turrets for me its like trying to find the impossible or should i say the chase and the amazing people you meet on that journey. I am still looking for parts for the Lancaster FN5 front turret  and the upper turret FN150 mainly the turret rings .

I am glad its not only me who can not find things through the Key Aero search tab i thought i was loosing it for a moment !

The Flypast/KeyAero search function has been rubbish for years and every software update makes it worse.

After my first few failed attempts to find things years ago, I’ve always used google.

Hi All,

 Well Done!

Excellent progress and a fitting tribute to all those who crammed themselves in these mechanical shrouds for hours at a time.  Yourself in particular and other’s alike who devote unselfishly they’re time and energy into these projects are to be admired IMHO.  You are all just important as those who do the same with the Warbirds we all love to see and hear flying, Thank You!  :- )

On the subject of your last post regarding the start of your turret project,  I had a dig on tinterweb and found your old post.  Even though I searched on the Key Aero internal search like you stated I could not come up with anything. (Link below)

If you’re in the UK you can come and measure ours on its stand at East Kirkby

There is an example at Duxford in their Mk.X Lancaster.
I visited a few years ago and got inside so they well be able to accommodate you for a visit.
Good luck.

You would be better contacting Aerotrader, they probably have a load on the shelf. Its where we bought our turret and parts from.
