You wait 65 years for a P-82 and then 2 come along at once…
Well, 39 years at least 🙂
Is the XP-82 Merlin powered?

They did not quite make Oshkosh, but they are pretty much ready to fly now
‘ After ten long years, we are ready to fly … almost. We received our Airworthiness Certificate on Sunday, one day before Oshkosh. This did not give us enough time to fly off the restriction hours (15), and then get a check ride.
Tom went to Oshkosh to give a talk on the XP-82 restoration. While there there was a F7F that had an apparent wheel failure; the same type of wheel our 82 has. Even though our two wheels passed inspection, Tom insists putting on two new wheels. Then we will have our first flight. (photo credit Michael O’Leary Air Classics)’
Thanks.

According to Tom Reilly’s most recent update on the XP-82 restoration, there are only a few items left to do, and as long as they don’t encounter any hiccups, the aircraft will be flying with time to spare before debuting at Oshkosh later next month. Based on some recent FB discussion, it sounds like C&P Aviation/Pat Harker’s F-82E is very close to flying as well, with not much left to do on it either.

There was a post started last October with video of what I think was the first engine run.
