Spent a pleasant afternoon at Spetchley Park near Worcester, Berkeley family home and used during WW2 as a USAAF R&R centre….
We got chating to Juliet Berkeley, now 88 and as sharp as an arrow….
She told us the story of a group of pilots relaxing in the gardens when one of their colleagues did a low pass showing off and collided with a Cedar tree…
Her father had little to say about the pilot or airframe, but was livid about the damage to the cedar tree, apparently disfigured to this day by the damage caused 75 odd years ago.
It’s a long shot, but anyone know what the airframe was and what happened to the pilot??!

A friend was also told about this incident some years back by the family, and that it had to force land nearby as well, never found out anymore of the Type or date but never looked at USAF records.
