Seeking Brian Barnes of Coventry.

Desperately trying to get in touch with Brian Barnes, I’ve tried through the Midland Air Museum, and via a couple of email addresses I have for him but nothing heard. Does anybody know him or is he on here? I really do want to include him in an ongoing project if possible which I think would be of great interest to him.

Thanks Cees, I have a few contacts out that way, I will see if I can make contact with him via museums abroad.

The tailfin I saw was at Deelen in The Netherlands, the carburetor was at Seppe (now Breda Airport).
Hope this helps.

Thank you gents – so it has definitely moved on from the museum then? They still list it as being available to view by appointment by contacting them. I believe there were some real gems amongst his collection, including an actual typhoon fin, rather than the slightly different Tempest fins that survive in larger numbers.

It really would be such a shame to not have him in on the book, not just for me, but for all the Typhoon enthusiasts out there…

Fournier Boy…
Like Mark Ray above, I am a less frequent visitor at the MAM these days due to circumstance. But over the years since 1994 when I joined, I never met Brian at all, but I do recall the Typhoon bits on display before being removed to wherever they are now? Sorry I can’t be of any useful help

Geoff – that’s not the same chap.

I think I bumped into Brian only once in the last few years on my now sporadic visits up to the Museum. He was never a real ‘regular’ although his project was displayed there for a while quite a few years back, consisting of the bare tubular front fuselage including engine bearers and separately the massive front radiator assy. To my eternal regret I never managed to photograph it whilst there. Since then I understand it has been in secure storage somewhere in Coventry.

Sorry, don’t know him personally but have seen some of his Typhoon bits on display in various museums in the Netherlands, among which a tailfin and a Sabre carburettor.

That’s the man. There’s a new book in production this summer, and I really want to feature him and his project in it. It’s too big a publication to not include him in, but sadly with no images out there in internet land, nor any history on his machine, I really don’t want to list it as a survivor but with no information following. Would all be rather sad, and thereby too many more months to go before all the material needs to be submitted.

If anyone knows him, i’d Really like this info passed to him, olalthough obviously if he doesn’t wish to be involved, that’s no problem. All the other projects are being really helpful, as are the various museums so it would be a shame to have just one project missed out 🙁
