Those underwing stars and bars on European based thunderbolts are problematic to get right. To help with recognition it was decide by the brass to had oversize under both wings. But some outfits only painted an oversize under the port wing leaving the starboard one as is. And there also appears to be different sizes for different outfits.

Has it got stars and bars under both wings? I suspect so, as weβre seeing one under the port wing. Looks fabulous, well done Air Leasing.

Looking nice! That under wing Star and Bar must be the size of a football pitch!

I thought it was just a nice paint scheme, but learning the same unit still flies in the UK makes it a very special one. Wonderful times for UK airshow fans!

I mentioned that in the other thread. A really nice idea to have the Jug painted in the markings of a unit still stationed in the UK. I’m guessing some nice P-47/F-15 air to air photos might surface at some point.

Stunning! The 492nd is, of course, still in the UK – flying F15s from Lakenheath. Reckon it’ll be one of Nellie’s first calls……

Or may be not. Done nothing but rain all day.

They are top people though we’re seriously thinking of getting them drugs tested – they reassembled NGNG, repainted her and ran her engine in less than 12 days! π

Is the P-38 still in the UK? (No idea who owns it!)
