Montrose Air Station Heritage Centre

A few snaps from a visit to the Montrose Air Station Heritage Centre. An excellent little collection and well worth a visit. Some really interesting relics on display as well as the magnificent BE2C replica and the superb Spitfire replica outside.

Thanks, Rob. Yes, you would have enjoyed it. Maybe next year! 🙂

Got our first look at the Anson too –

Nice shots, MM. A shame we couldn’t of stayed on for this one.

Went to Montrose on Saturday for the Open Weekend and Fly-In. A few vintage types turned up again though the strong, gusting crosswind probably deterred a few. A Jungmann did a flypast but carried on to land at Perth. We were across at the museum at the time so only got a glimpse as he flew off! Among the older aircraft which did land were an Se5a replica, Piper Cub, Cessna Bird Dog, Stinson Station Wagon, Piel Emeraude and a couple of Jodels. I’ll include the beautifully-kept Comanche too – it being 52 years old!

Looking forward to this event. Quite a few vintage aircraft turned up last year alongside a good number of modern types. Iirc it wasn’t a brilliant day weather-wise being blustery and with a threatening overcast. Hopefully a better day this year. This is a museum which is well worth supporting so it would be great to see a good turnout next weekend.

There is a fly-in and family open weekend at Montrose over the August Bank Holiday , 25-26 August and entry to the museum is free so I hope it get’s the support it deserves and well done to all involved .

Hi Graham, it’s a little crane of 30cwts safe working load (possibly used for small engine changes, etc)

Nice photos. I particularly liked the Hawk Major, but what does the crane in the background belong on?

And can they switch the cannon blisters around on the Spitfire? Inboard for a Mk.Vc please.

Absolutely concur. It’s one of those gems of an aviation museum. The staff are so welcoming and knowledgeable and the exhibits so well presented.

I have called in there on a couple of occasions when in the area; an excellent museum and friendly staff, well worth a visit.

Nice photos, Derek 🙂 It’s a great little museum there. On our last visit the layout of the smaller exhibits had had a total re-vamp and it was looking very neat and well-organised. The Camel replica had been stripped back to basics and was under restoration to make it look more authentic. I’m sure it’ll emerge from the workshop looking amazing – the BE2 is testimony to the skills of the volunteers there. Any mention of when the Anson is due to arrive?
