So everybody wants to see NX611 fly again – but preferably without consuming any parts still around? Difficult nut to crack that is…

This is beginning to sound like the preserve or restore debate! I’m of a mind that the Merlin was built to make noise and power………..Let her roar!!!

I agree, preserve it as a historical artifact!

I wonder if RR would be interested in swapping it for a display Merlin they must have in Derby?

One Merlin 25, so only one more needed for an airworthy Mosquito

You could argue the same point with the Puma engine for the D.H 9 ! Been in a museum for decades -overhauling and running it is no different . However the only way you can practically ensure something really is totally inhibited is to strip apart then put back together.
There is no guarantee that leaving something ‘as is’ preserves it long term.

It’s only original once!

Still, pretty sweet find!

I agree. Don’t touch. Glass case (sealed), preserved, on display,

It would certainly need to go through overhaul before it could be classed as airworthy, costing around £90k. Once overhauled it ‘just another airworthy Merlin’, the seal would have been broken.

Splendid acquisition. It’s so nice to see when this sort of thing turns up.
Obviously it needs looking after as it’s probably worth quite a bit, however, as regards a flying engine it will depend on its modification state as to whether it will need to be rebuilt or not. Did it come with its log card/book?
If it’s not going to fly, just ground run, then you might consider cashing it in and going for something less pristine – but just as good and considerably cheaper?
Just my two-penn’orth (for what it’s worth).

JC i know exactly what you mean! So historically valuable just left as ot rolled off the line.
This is the 10th engine for the Centre so the need to use it is very slim.

A piece of history of it’s own.Is there such a shortage of these engines that it would have to be used?

What a fantastic find, well done.

It seems too good to use, if that makes sense
