Greek Spitfire rebuild

The Greek Spitfire, MJ755, is apparently to come to the UK for restoration to flying condition….

I remember the plan was to “potentially” get it flying again a few years back.

Is it gonna be ARCo or BHHH doing the work?

It might even share workshop space with a Trojan!

Peter. Perhaps you and Gordon should set up a signing table at a big air show and charge large fees for your signatures 🙂

They do come up on Abe Books…usually £500-£600 the pair.

I smile now, when I remember one prominent Spitfire owner, whose aircraft entry had a particularly strong in service photo coverage, said that they were too expensive at £75 and he would wait until they were remaindered on eBay. 🙂

Is there much in the way of RAF history for MJ755?

Spitfire Survivors Vol I.

Although reported as on strength with No. 2 Squadron SAAF, by August 1944 MJ755 was allocated to No. 43 (China-British) Squadron – the famous ―Fighting Cocks, where it was
coded FT-V, which was covering the landings in the South of France code named Operation Anvil. During August 1944 the squadron was based at Ramatuelle, moving on to Sisteron
later in the month where it remained until September. It moved that same month to Lyon/ Bron and spent the end of September and the beginning of October at La Jasse before moving
to Peretola in Italy. Later in November it transferred to Rimini where it remained until February when a further move took it to Ravenna. It stayed here until May before a brief posting
to Rivolto which was quickly followed by a transfer that month to Klagenfurt, Austria. The Greek Air Force received……
